From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Dr Anthony Fauci has reacted to Brad Pitt‘s Emmy nomination, which came as the result of the actor’s impersonation of the health expert on Saturday Night Live.

Fauci, a leading member of the government’s coronavirus task force, told The Associated Press: “The only thing I can say is it’s somewhat surrealistic.

“I don’t get distracted by that. I really have to focus like a laser beam on the things that I’m responsible for.”

Pitt is up for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series in the 2020 Emmys, which will be held on 20 September.

He played Fauci in a remote SNL episode back in April.

“It’s a little bit strange that that’s going on,” Fauci added while speaking to AP.

“...The one thing – for sure, it doesn’t go to my head because I don’t pay much attention to it, because I’m too busy paying attention to what I really need to do on a day to day basis.”

The Emmys will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

This year’s ceremony is expected to be held virtually due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
