Karl Urban has revealed a Lord of the Rings reunion will take place in a forthcoming episode of The Boys.

The actor appears in the hit Amazon show as Billy Butcher, the leader of the titular group who spends the series attempting to take down a corporation behind the creation of reckless superheroes.

Since it began in 2019, the series has become the streaming giant's biggest hit. Its return last month saw Amazon score the highest viewing figures of any of its original shows to date.

The series has two episodes left to go before it concludes its second run – and the penultimate outing, which will be released on Friday (2 October), will leave fans of Peter Jackson's Middle Earth trilogy extremely satisfied.

New Zealand actor Urban revealed on his Instagram page that John Noble will appear in the show as his father. Noble appeared in the Lord of the Rings franchise as Denethor, the 26th Ruling Steward of Gondor.

Urban played Éomer in the film series. Both actors starred in The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003).

The actor shared a photo to his followers, writing: "WTF! John Noble ...aka Denethor is Butchers dad ep7. Loved working with John. His Sam Butcher is a brutal force of nature!"

The Boys also stars Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Chace Crawford and Antony Starr as the villainous Homelander.
