From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It's Big Brother time again and by the sounds of things, viewers are in for a treat with the Timebomb theme. While a lot of details are being kept tightly under wraps for our enjoyment and surprise, here's what we know so far for those of you who simply can't wait much longer:
When? Big Brother: Timebomb starts ticking live on Tuesday 12 May with a two-hour launch at 9pm on Channel 5
Who’s hosting? The lovely Emma Willis is back presenting the 16th series, while past Celebrity Big Brother winner Rylan Clark will be heading up gossip companion show Bit On The Side.
What’s with the Timebomb theme? No-one’s really sure at this stage, but all will soon be revealed. Expect the housemates’ past, present and futures to be controlled by Big Brother and the “concept of time” to be turned on its head. It’s likely that the contestants will not know whether it is day or night and some past faces may be making reappearances.
Who are the housemates? Channel 5 has revealed our new Big Brother pals days in advance for the first time ever. There’s a priest’s daughter, a set of female twins, a former X Factor contestant, a Ukip voter, a wannabe Prime Minister, a rapper and the usual students and models.
What does the house look like? One word: retro. Think Mad Men Sixties style with glitzy sequinned beds, a bathroom fish tank, the usual shed-load of mirrors and a plastic crocodile in the swimming pool. Then there’s the mind-boggling diary room, complete with clocks and clock hands, and the decidedly intimidating Big Brother eye.
When will the first eviction happen? Quite possibly this Friday during a 90-minute slot from 9-10.30pm. If not an eviction, then perhaps an exciting twist of some sorts.
Now, start planning your big night in on Tuesday.
