The name of Sheldon and Amy’s future child from The Big Bang Theory has been revealed on spin-off series Young Sheldon.

On Thursday night (5 November), Young Sheldon returned for its season four premiere, with Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) celebrating as he graduated high school at the age of 11.

In the episode, both Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik, who played Sheldon and his wife Amy in The Big Bang Theory, made an appearance in voice-over form as they gave fans an update on their characters’ future together.

“It was the best graduation party I had ever been to, until the one we had for my son, Leonard Cooper,” Parsons said as Sheldon.

But while fans may have been left wondering whether this name was a tribute to the scientist’s best friend and former roommate Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), the voiceover set the record straight.

“I wanted his name to be Leonard Nimoy Cooper, but Amy wouldn’t let me,” he continued, in reference to the famous Star Trek actor.

“Be happy I let you name him Leonard,” Amy interjected, with Sheldon responding: “OK, OK.”

“Love you,” Amy then said, causing her husband to reply: “Love you too.”

While Parsons regularly narrates Young Sheldon and serves as an executive producer on the show, this was Bialik’s first time returning to the franchise.

The Big Bang Theory came to an end in 2019 after 12 seasons on the air.

Last week actor Kaley Cuoco, who played Penny on the long-running series, sent fans wild as she recreated one of the show’s most famous scenes in a TikTok video.
