From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Derren Litten, the creator of Benidorm, has revealed that he is reviving the cancelled ITV series – as a themed bar.

After the cancellation of his recent coastal-set sitcom Scarborough, Litten announced the move on Twitter.

“When the BBC cancelled my latest show Scarborough I had a long think about what I wanted to do next,” he wrote. “I genuinely thought Scarborough was some of my best work and if it’s not what TV channels are looking for now maybe I should do something completely different.”

“So I made a decision to step away from making TV programmes for a while and I sat down and thought about the things I like doing,” he continued.

“I like Benidorm, I like drinking, I like karaoke, I like socialising. But how on earth could I make an income from all that?” he asked.

“That’s when I first got excited about the idea of opening a karaoke bar in Benidorm.”

Benidorm ran from 2007 to 2018 and starred a host of actors including Steve Pemberton and Johnny Vegas.

Litten also confirmed that he had kept a lot of the props and costumes from the series, “which were going to be dumped” – suggesting that his Benidorm-themed bar would give people the chance to drink and be merry while surrounded by genuine artefacts from the series.
