From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Batwoman is set to hit the small screen in October and Ruby Rose will be playing the titular character.

As the first out lesbian superhero, this will be a positive step forward for the representation of the LGBTQ+ community on television.

Rose, a genderfluid lesbian herself, was initially wary of committing to a TV role but gave in as: ”It’s telling the story that I wish was on television when I was a kid.”

She continues: ”I believe there are going to be people that this changes their life. We want everyone to watch this, especially young people, who can identify and relate to people they’re watching on the screen and hopefully be empowered by that.”

Rose has previously starred in Netflix hit Orange Is the New Black, as well as films Pitch Perfect 3, John Wick: Chapter 2, and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

Batwoman will premiere on 6 October on The CW, and Sky One is expected to air the show for UK viewers soon after.
