From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. According to the New York Times, Obama stopped HBO Chief Executive Richard Pepler at a state dinner for French president Francois Hollande last week in the hope of scoring a few episodes of the hit shows.
True Detective, which stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, has yet to make it to the UK but has already been making waves in the US, while fantasy epic Game of Thrones is set to return for its fourth season in April.
Obama was reportedly hoping to get some quality TV time in over the Presidents Day Weekend.
He has previously shown an interest in Homeland and earlier this week tweeted 'no spoilers please' with regards to the returning Netflix drama House of Cards.
As for his favourite TV show ever, that accolade went to HBO's gritty crime drama The Wire.
