From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Armando Iannucci has a new TV show and the first trailer proves it’s going to be just as hilarious as The Thick of It and Veep.

The British writer has once again partnered with HBO for Avenue 5, which stars Hugh Laurie as Ryan Clark, the captain of what looks to be an ill-fated spaceship.

Also starring in the series is Suzy Nakamura, who plays an associate owner of the spacecraft and Zach Woods as the head of customer relations, while Frozen star Josh Gad plays the ship’s billionaire owner.

The Thick of It‘s Rebecca Front also appears towards the end of the trailer as a passenger of Avenue 5.

Not much else is known about the series, but it’s been described as “set in the future, mostly in space”. Nikki Amuka-Bird, Lenora Crichlow and Himish Patel will also appear.

In 2020, Iannucci will also release his new film The Personal History of David Copperfield, which stars Dev Patel.

Avenue 5 will be released in January on HBO in the US, and Sky One and NOW TV in the UK.
