Adele has shown off her American accent in the first trailer for her Saturday Night Live hosting debut.

The British star announced last week that she would be hosting an episode of the long-running US sketch show for the first time.

“Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!!” she wrote on her Instagram.

In the new trailer, Adele teases the episode alongside SNL regular Kate McKinnon and musician HER, who will be performing.

In the video, McKinnon attempts to mock Adele’s natural accent, promising the show is “set to be wicked”, before abruptly halting the impression.

“That was a bad idea,” McKinnon says.

In response, Adele puts on a stereotypical Valley Girl accent, saying: “Oh my god, no worries, girlfriend!”

“Now that is good,” McKinnon replies.

Despite rumours throughout 2020 that Adele would be releasing new music this year, she is not expected to perform during her SNL appearance.

She has previously appeared twice on the series, both times as a musical guest, in 2008 and 2015.

The “Rolling in the Deep” singer has said the new appearance feels as if she has come “full circle”, writing on Instagram: “It’ll be almost 12 years to the day that I first appeared on the show, during an election... which went on to break my career in America, so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possibly say no!”

Adele’s Saturday Night Live episode will be broadcast on Saturday 24 October.
