Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Tracy Morgan made a triumphant return to Saturday Night Live last night, following his recovery from a traumatic brain injury he suffered in a car crash that threatened to end his comedy and acting career.
Morgan was hugely thankfully for his health, but also made jokes about his accident, saying in his opening monologue:
“I was in a terrible car accident more than a year ago. It was awful, but it also showed me how much love and support I have in this world… People are wondering. ‘Can he speak? Does he have 100% mental capacity?’ The truth is, I never did. I might even be a few points higher.”
His 30 Rock co-stars Tina Fey (Liz Lemon), Alec Baldwin (Jack Donaghy), Jane Krakowski (Jenna Maroney) and Jack McBrayer (Kenneth Parcell) were delighted to have him back, embracing him on-set and starring in a sketch about an ‘unseen 30 Rock episode’ in which Tracy Jordan dies after trying to non-artificially inseminate his box jellyfish.
Fey later said: “We’re so happy that you’re OK, but we’re even happier that you’re ready to make people laugh again.”
