From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Game of Thrones episode we've all been waiting for has finally aired, and there's a lot to take in.

One things keeping fans on tenterhooks was whether either (or both) of two terrifying theories involving the army of the dead would turn out to be correct in the battle at Winterfell.

*Spoilers ahead*

Ultimately the prediction that Cersei would have to face the Night King after all when he took his ice dragon to King's Landing to create a bigger army was, predictably, rubbish. With all the build-up to Bran baiting him to the godswood, the Night King was hardly going to swan off to the south instead.

No, it was the other, arguably scarier theory that, for the people hiding below Winterfell in the crypt, things weren't exactly going to be any safer.

As the Night King stood in front of Jon Snow and raised a fresh army, the dead resting in the crypt were also resurrected.

Fortunately Sansa and Tyrion didn't have to do too much given the Lady of Winterfell's baby sister was outside doing all the legwork. Nice one, Arya.
