The ending of Game of Thrones may have been revealed as early as season two.

With just two episodes to go until the HBO series’s finale, fans are theorising about how the King’s Landing battle for the Iron Throne will go down, especially after an outing that seemingly paved the way for Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) to follow in her father’s footsteps to become the Mad Queen.

This notion was backed up by the final words of the character’s long-time aide, Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel), who shouted the word “Dracarys” before having her head chopped off at the order of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). You can read up on the meaning of that word here as well as this incredibly far-fetched theory that could actually happen in episode five.

But, some are highlighting a vision Dany had back in season two and now believe it hinted at the character’s downfall at the hands of none other than her lover and nephew, Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

In season two’s tenth episode, titled “Valar Morghulis”, Dany entered the House of the Undying to find her stolen baby dragons. Beforehand, she had a vision of herself approaching the Iron Throne – but it wasn’t in a King’s Landing that viewers had seen before; this one was deserted, in tatters and covered in something appearing to be snow – something many believed was a hint of the Night King terrors to come.

Considering Arya killed the Night King a few weeks back, fans are now wondering whether this was actually teasing that Jon Snow will be forced to overthrow Daenerys.

After all, in the vision, the snow was on the throne because the ceiling of the castle had been torn down. Going by last week’s events, the only person who seems likely to be responsible for making this come true is Daenerys herself. If she takes Missandei’s final word literally, she’s probably going to send Drogon on a fire-breathing rampage through the city, killing many innocent civilians in the process - and this would no doubt snap Jon into action wanting to put a stop to her murderous ways.

Did Daenerys’ visions predict her death at the hands of Jon in season two – a twist that would fulfil one of the show's long-standing prophecies? Time will tell.

The show will be available on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
