From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It’s not all over for Breaking Bad fans. Of course there will be the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul, which airs on Netflix next year. But staying closer to the original series, LA actor Miles Allen brings his 2014 Edinburgh hit solo show One Man Breaking Bad: The Unauthorised Parody, on a UK tour in March 2015.
With perfect impersonations of all the characters, including Walter White, Jesse Pinkman and Saul Goodman, Allen covers all 60 episodes in the five seasons in just 60 minutes – even playing five characters interacting at once in the famous “couch intervention” scene from season one.
“My biggest challenge is that I am being trusted with recreating a truly great work of art of modern television,” says Allen. “Even though I am parodying it, it’s still my job to provide a nostalgia trip for the audience, post-Breaking Bad. Creating a comedic yet genuine picture of the show we all know and love can be a fine line to walk, but I believe I am doing it justice. ”
Allen is not alone in his quest to pull off such a feat. At this year’s Edinburgh fringe, Charles Ross performed not only his 60-minute One-Man Star Wars trilogy – first performed there in 2002 – but also his One-Man Lord of the Rings trilogy. This show, which he first performed at Edinburgh in 2009, speeds up the action into 70 minutes. And Luke Kepner returned to Edinburgh with his one-man show The Only Way Is Downton, following a West End run and tour, with impressions of all the Downton cast – and also taking in other TV shows including the Great British Bake-Off.
Now that die-hard fans can enjoy Breaking Bad on stage super-fast, how about somebody doing Homeland next?
