From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Millie and Liam have been voted the winners of Love Island 2021.

A dramatic final episode of the series saw Kaz and Tyler place fourth, followed by Faye and Teddy placing third.

That left Millie and Liam and Chloe and Toby to face off in one last romantic battle.

The pair are the seventh couple to win Love Island, following on from such memorable past items as Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham, Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea, and Finn Tapp and Paige Turley.

Millie and Liam chose to split the £50,000 prize money, despite Millie having the option to take the money for herself.

Earlier in the episode, Chloe said that she “always” thought that Toby was “fit”, and the pair made plans to stay together after the show concluded. They also joked about marriage.

Millie and Liam, meanwhile, discussed the latter’s brief fling with Lillie in Casa Amor, and Liam teased marriage to Millie himself.

Going into the episode, Liam and Millie were the bookies’ favourites to take home the £50,000, with Chloe and Toby widely expected to place second.

Applications for the 2022 series of Love Island have also been opened.
