THIS concrete entrance to a London underground station is sadly symptomatic of the lack of decoration on Britain's transport networks. Can you improve on it? If so, you still have time to enter the Travelling Hopefully competition and win a trip to Moscow, Stockholm or Paris. The Independent, in association with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is looking for proposals, imaginative yet realistic, for enlivening the drab surroundings of our transport system. Any aspect is open to improvement: from motorway cafes, airport buildings and stations to buses, planes, boats and trains. Entries should be sent to TRAVELLING HOPEFULLY, Listings, The Independent, 40 City Road, London EC1Y 2DB and should arrive no later than 1 September.

Rules: There are three prizes for the ideas that, in the opinion of the judges, use the arts most imaginatively and practically to transform the experience of travel in Britain (or in the case of air and sea travel, from Britain).

A panel of distinguished judges, including Sir Peter Parker, Deanna Petherbridge and Ruth Rendell, will select the most imaginative plans which, in its opinion, are feasible. The decision of the judges is final. (A companion prize will be awarded via the regional arts boards, Arts Councils of Britain, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, for existing schemes.)

1st prize: Five nights in Moscow for two, with travel and hotel paid, plus spending money.

2nd prize: Three nights in Stockholm for two with travel and hotel paid, plus underground passes.

3rd prize: Two nights in Paris for two, including travel and hotel expenses, plus Metro carnets.
