From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Harry Potter fans will now be able to give their own Dementor's Kiss thanks to a new range of Hogwarts-themed lipsticks.

Make-up brand LA Splash have revealed a colourful collection of shades from a deep 'Bellatrix' purple to a dusky 'Lovegood' pink and, controversially, a blood-red 'Raven's Claw'.

Lukewarm fans are excited with the news, but the more devoted JK Rowling readers have pointed out some serious flaws with the "super poor" name and hue combinations that show a "complete lack of understanding of the characters".

"Just because they took the names from a book, they think they're great and geeky," Facebook user Samantha Miller wrote under the Buzzfeed article revealing the cosmetics.

"The colours they used for each one are just no. Bellatrix should have been that deep, deep red she wore. Sirius should have been close to black in colour. The navy for Bellatrix should have been Ravenclaw. It's just a mess."

Only those familiar with the books will know that Ravenclaw (one word, not two...) is a Hogwarts house and its colours are blue and bronze, hence all this rage.
