Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

First Call

FIVE YEARS AGO, the Happy Mondays, a band well known for their excesses, broke up acrimoniously amid lurid controversy. However, all differences appear to have been put aside as frontman Shaun Ryder and the rest of the group are reunited for a series of dates this summer. It'll be a nostalgic treat for many, as the band were at the forefront of the second summer of love, acid house and the great rock and dance explosion of 1988.

Last Call

BEFORE DAME JUDI DENCH (right) jets off for Broadway, try to see her in one of the last West End performances of Filumena. While the play has had a mixed reception, most reviewers, including The Independent's Paul Taylor, were impressed by Dench's powerful performance. Playing alongside Michael Pennington in Sir Peter Hall's production of de Filippo's Neapolitan drama, she shines as the Italian ex-prostitute trying to secure a father for her children. Catch her if you can.

Piccadilly Theatre, London W1 (0171-369 1734) tonight to 27 Feb
