Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The 2018 Tony Award nominees have been revealed with Mean Girls and Spongebob Squarepants: The Musical leading with 12 nominations.

There was a strong representation for the theatre world's British influence with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Angels in America receiving top nominations with 11 and 10 nods (respectively).

Overall, the standouts from the 2017-2018 Broadway season in this year's nominations include Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Angels in America, Mean Girls, The Band's Visit and My Fair Lady leading this year's honours.

Highlights in acting nominations include Andrew Garfield in Angels In America, Amy Schumer in her Broadway debut Meteor Shower, Denzel Washington in The Iceman Cometh and Laurie Metcalf for Three Tall Women.

Nominations for this year's awards ceremony were revealed by Hamilton alum Leslie Odom Jr. and Waitress star Katharine McPhee.

Last year's Tony Awards saw Dear Evan Hansen take home the award for best musical with Laurie Metcalf, Ben Platt, Bette Midler and many more actors taking home accolades as well.

This year's awards ceremony will be hosted by musicians and Broadway stars Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban.

While nearly all award winners have yet to be revealed, it was previously announced that Chita Rivera and Andrew Lloyd Webber would be taking home the 2018 Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The Tony Awards will take place this Sunday June 10 at 8pm EST and will be broadcast live on CBS.
