From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Theatre stars such as James McAvoy and Billie Piper shared a stage today as nominees for this year's Olivier Awards gathered to celebrate their inclusion on the shortlist.

The acting luminaries together with technical wizards who are in the running for prizes teamed up at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London ahead of the ceremony, which takes place later this month.

The nominees were announced in March with McAvoy shortlisted for best actor for his role in Macbeth.

He goes up against Rafe Spall for his performance in Constellations and Luke Treadaway, star of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, both of whom also attended.

Piper is up for best actress for her role in The Effect.

Also at today's gathering was Leigh Zimmerman, from A Chorus Line, who is among the hopefuls in the best performance in a supporting role in a musical category.

The ceremony - officially called the Olivier Awards 2013 with MasterCard - will take place at the Royal Opera House on Sunday April 28, hosted by Sheridan Smith and Hugh Bonneville.
