From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The thriller, which focuses on the political relationship between China and the US, opened to universal critical acclaim last year.
The play, which was awarded five stars by the majority of critics, explores the story behind the photograph of The Tank Man during the events of Tiananmen Square in 1989.
It opened at the Almeida theatre in Islington last year, before transferring to the Harold Pinter Theatre in the West End.
Accepting her award, playwright Kirkwood said: “I’ve got an enormous debt of gratitude to everyone at the Almeida theatre, Sonia Friedman... and my family.
“It’s important I accept this on behalf of the whole Chimerica company. Producing this play was a huge collaborative effort and I was lucky enough to work with cast and crew who were ridiculously talented.
“Most of all I’d like to share this with Lyndsey Turner…without who the play would have been a much poorer version of itself.”
Turner won Best Director for Chimerica earlier in the evening.
