Your support makes all the difference.Peter Morgan has updated the script for The Audience to reflect the results of yesterday’s General Election and HMQ inviting Conservative Party leader David Cameron to form a new government.
The British playwright announced that he has edited a scene between Queen Elizabeth II and Cameron, played by Kristin Scott Thomas and Mark Dexter, ahead of this evening’s performance.
The hit production imagines a series of pivotal weekly meetings at Buckingham Palace between the Queen and her twelve Prime Ministers. Both parties share an unspoken agreement to keep what is said completely confidential, making what is said at times intimate and at others explosive.
“In the same week as we opened The Audience it’s been particularly interesting to have experienced such a dramatic general election,” Morgan said.
“This morning I have rewritten the scene in my play between The Queen and David Cameron to reflect the events of last night and this morning. Kristin Scott Thomas and Mark Dexter will be rehearsing this new dialogue this afternoon and I hope tonight’s audience in particular will enjoy our immediate response to today’s results.”
Stephen Daldry’s revival of The Audience opened at the Apollo Theatre in London’s West End earlier this week and is currently booking up to 25 July 2015.
It also stars David Calder as Winston Churchill, Michael Gould as John Major, Gordon Kennedy as Gordon Brown and Sylvestra Le Touzel as Margaret Thatcher, David Robb as Anthony Eden and Nicholas Woodeson as Harold Wilson among others.
