Cafe Royal Brasserie, 68 Regent St, W1 (0171 437 9090). Sixcourses in Rococo restaurant. Vegetarian alternative. pounds 68 per head, pounds 32.50 for children.

The Savoy, The Strand, London WC2 (0171 836 4343). The River Restaurant offers seven courses. pounds 145 for adults, pounds 75 children. Veggie and fish alternatives.

The Landmark London, 222 Marylebone Rd, NW1 (0171 631 8000). High-ceilinged dining-room complete with a capella carol singers. Veggie menu on request. pounds 97.50 per person, pounds 65 for children.

Trevaunance Point Hotel, St Agnes, Cornwall (01872 553235). Watch the waves as you wade through seven courses. Veggie alternative. pounds 40 per head.

The Waterside Inn, Ferry Road, Bray-on-Thames, Berkshire (01628 20691). Five-course lunch pounds 85 per person, no reduction for children. Will cook to order for veggies.

Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, Church Rd, Great Milton, Oxon (018844 278881). Raymond Blanc offers an eight-course lunch. pounds 120 a head, price reduction for children depending on how much they eat.

Maes-y-Neuadd, Talsarnau, Gwynedd (01766 780200). Set in eight acres, the hotel serves five courses. Veggie and fish alternatives. pounds 45 a head, pounds 25 for children.

Royal Terrace Hotel, 18 Royal Terrace, Edinburgh (0131 557 3222). Three courses for pounds 45, half price for children. Veggies welcome.
