Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

What Is It?

Lindsay Posner's bold, fresh, touring production of Shakespeare's gender- politics comedy which boldly combines traditional and modern elements to delightful effect.

Who's In It

Stuart McQuarrie is an excellent, beefy Petruchio while Monica Dolan's tart aggressiveness hits the spot. A fine supporting cast includes Jo Stone-Fewings as Lucentio and Louis Hilyer as his servant Tranio.

What They Say About It

"In its staging ideas and the rich personality of its casting, this production is artfully pitched to take to the road and win over the kind of young crowd who would not naturally put an evening at this allegedly misogynist comedy on the top of any wish-list," Paul Taylor, The Independent.

"The great thing about Lindsay Posner's lucid, intelligent staging for the RSC is that he never tries to make the piece seem comfortable. It is amusing, for we often find cruelty funny, but there is no mistaking its viciousness," Charles Spencer, The Daily Telegraph.

"This is a bold, shrewd Shrew where the casting unfortunately mirrors the sexual politics of the play: McQuarrie dominates, Dolan disappoints," Nick Curtis, Evening Standard.

Where You Can See It
