Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

THE LATEST album from Lucinda Williams (right), Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, is sure to figure in many critics' end-of-year lists. Singing in a honey and nicotine voice, Williams produces a rootsy brand of rock that stands totally favourable comparison to the squillion- selling Ms Sheryl Crow and other newer acts. A charismatic figure live, her set should also include old favourites such as "Passionate Kisses", a song that earned Grammys for both her and Mary Chapin Carpenter in the 1980s. The support slot is filled by noted Nashville songwriter Jim Lauderdale.

Shepherds Bush Empire, London W12 (0171-771 2000) Sun, 7pm

Londoners Grand Drive also play a brand of music in the roots rock vein, but with warm, poppy tones. They're out promoting their new single, "Wrong Notes", in anticipation of an album in February, which should see them become a more familiar name.

G2, Glasgow (0141-332 1120) tomorrow, 8pm
