The Edinburgh Festival: What to see today
Mark Morris Dance Group (Festival Theatre, 031-225 5756, 7.30pm). L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato - Morris's masterly visualisation of pastoral odes by Milton, music by Handel, and Blake's illustrations for the poems - reaches a British stage at last. Preceded (today, 3pm) by a Festival in Focus debate chaired by Sheena McDonald. Speakers include Morris and Jean-Pierre Perreault. Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (Usher Hall, 031- 228 1155, 8pm). Part of Edinburgh's Beethoven focus is a cycle of the complete symphonies shared between different orchestras and performing traditions - starting with the Stavanger Symphony and its charismatic conductor, Franz Bruggen. Ute Lemper (Festival Theatre, 10.30pm). The charcoal-voiced German chanteuse - a synthesis of Dietrich and Piaf - in a late- night solo cabaret. MW
