Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Gordon Ramsay (right), who shocked foodies everywhere when he walked out of Chelsea's Aubergine in July, returns at his own restaurant on 7 September on Royal Hospital Road, London, SW3. Called Gordon Ramsay, the restaurant's mission is to scoop three Michelin stars. Its phone lines open for bookings tomorrow (0171 352 4441), but there will be no three- month wait for tables as at Aubergine - Ramsay is adamant reservations will be taken a maximum of one month ahead to give everyone the chance to sample his mind-blowing dishes. The chef also tells us he's close to sniffing out a site for a second restaurant in the capital.

The Manchester Reform Club, once the haunt of Liberal politicians like Gladstone and Lloyd George, has been given a new lease of life as a brasserie. The 19th-century, building is on King Street. Reform (0161 839 9966) offers Modern European cuisine. Also worth a visit in Manchester is Sarasota (0161 236 3766) on Canal Street - the city's first roof-top eaterie. Doing the Fusion cooking is Lisa Walker, seemingly the city's first female head chef.

If you fancy a break from a hard day's shopping in the capital, Fortnum & Mason - the place where the Royals get their groceries - could have the answer. A Salmon & Champagne Bar opens next week on the mezzanine floor (0171 734 8040) - serving nothing but. Alternatively, Selfridges Food Hall last week launched the latest Yo! Sushi - all raw fish and conveyor belts.
