Danish international football player Mikkel Beck, who's in the UK playing for Middlesbrough FC, has been missing his native cuisine so much that he's got together with some mates from home and opened Lundum's (0171 373 7774) on London's Old Brompton Road. The restaurant - the only Danish eaterie in the capital - offers national specialities such as smoked fish, spiced pork rolls and meatballs.

The Chez Gerard chain, which claims to offer "the best steak-frites this side of Paris", continues to expand. Last week saw the opening of another restaurant on Trinity Square, just spitting distance from the Tower of London. The latest Chez Gerard (0171 480 5500) has the trademark zinc bar and chrome fittings, but also offers intimate individual dining booths. For those who don't like steak, alternative French dishes also appear on the menu.

Curry-lovers have a treat in store, with two of London's best Asian restaurants holding food promotions. Soho Spice (0171 434 0808, pictured above) on Wardour Street, is celebrating Goan cuisine from Monday until the end of March, offering such dishes as chicken and coconut curry with tamarind, and spicy seafood. And The Red Fort (0171 437 2115) in Dean Street begins a six-week festival of Indian coastal cooking on 1 February. As well as hosting some of southern India's best chefs, there will be classical music and dancing displays.
