The Duke of Edinburgh, Admiral of the Fleet, unveils the Captain Johnnie Walker Statue at the Pier Head in Liverpool, and later attends a Service of Dedication at the new Royal Naval Headquarters, HMS Eaglet, Liverpool; and opens a new Youth Hostel Association hostel in Chaloner Street, Liverpool. The Duke of York opens the new playing fields at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, Suffolk; and, as Trustee, National Maritime Museum, attends a dinner given by the Friends of the Museum at the Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich, London SE10. The Princess Royal, President, British Knitting and Clothing Export Council, visits Handcraft Limited, South Wigston, Leicestershire, and later visits Chilprufe Limited, Leicester; as Patron, the Butler Trust, visits HM Young Offenders Institution Glen Parva, Wigston, and later visits HM Prison Leicester; and attends a concert of Handel's Messiah at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, London SE10. The Duke of Kent, Patron, Trinity College of Music, attends a presentation at St John's Smith Square, London SW1; and as President, the Royal Institution of Great Britain, attends the Evening Discourse at 21 Albemarle Street, London W1.
Changing of the Guard
The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am; 1st Battalion Welsh Guards mounts the Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Coldstream Guards.
