The Prince of Wales, on behalf of The Queen, holds an investiture at Buckingham Palace. The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, opens the Great Hall at Stirling Castle, and the new offices of The Scotsman newspaper, 108 Holyrood Road, Edinburgh; and gives a reception for Scottish Young Achievers at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Princess Margaret, Patron, visits the Mary Hare Grammar School, Newbury, Berkshire, and opens the new Art and Design Centre. The Duke of Gloucester attends a reception in the Banqueting House, Hampton Court Palace, to mark the 150th year of the Architects Benevolent Society, and subsequently attends Evensong in the Chapel Royal and, as Grand Prior, the Order of St John, attends a dinner given by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta at Grosvenor House Hotel, London W1, to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the Order. Princess Alexandra, Patron of the Digestive Disorders Foundation, attends a reception at St James's Palace.

Changing of the Guard

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am; 1st Battalion Welsh Guards mounts the Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Grenadier Guards.
