RUTHERFORD AND SON

Katie Mitchell directs a revival of this forgotten gem by Gitta Sowerby, first staged at the Royal Court in 1912. This production stars Bob Peck as the patriarchal glass-manufacturer who keeps his family stiflingly repressed. National Theatre, Cottesloe (071-928 2252). Previewing, opens tomorrow.

EVA AND THE CABIN BOY

A torrid tale by Shiela Dewey set on board the last sailing clipper to carry emigres to Australia in 1879. After a shipwreck, a woman finds love and liberation with a younger cabin-boy. Ted Craig directs. Warehouse Theatre, Croydon (081- 680 4060). Opens tonight.

THE DREAM COAST

British premiere for the renowned Los Angeles playwright / director John Steppling's play, which brutally debunks the myths of American dreamland, as seen through the eyes of a lost tribe of drifters. White Bear, SE11 (071-793 9193). Previewing, opens tomorrow.

BLOODY POETRY

A double-bill of Howard Brenton's 1984 drama of the private lives of Percy Bysshe Shelley, his sister Mary and Lord Byron, coupled with Peter Quilter's adaptation of Mary Shelley's gothic novel, Frankenstein. Directed by Cordelia Monsey. Union Chapel, N1 (071-388 1394). Opens tonight.

A DOLL'S HOUSE

Annie Castledine directs Ibsen's story of Nora, the young wife struggling to emerge from the paternalism of her husband,Torvald. Chichester Minerva Theatre (0243 781312). Previews from Thurs, opens Fri.

THE NIGHT WE BURIED

JUDY GARLAND

Patti Boulaye (last seen in Carmen Jones) joins a cast of 14 male and female Judy Garland lookalikes in Doric Wilson's commemorative play recalling the Stonewall Riots of 1969. The ubiquitous Phil Willmott directs. Shaw Theatre, NW1 (071-495 6824). From 8 June.
