Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Camden Town's annual music festival, the Camden Mix this year runs from 16 to 25 October. During the day, there are seminars on all aspects of the music industry, while the evening sees showcase gigs and noteworthy appearances from rare visitors to these shores. Dates for the diary include The Jungle Brothers (above) (Forum, 16 Oct), dub legend U-Roy (Jazz Cafe, 19 Oct) and veteran jazz figure Dave Pike - with his first UK gig for 10 years at the Jazz Cafe on 25 Oct.
The indie music highlight is on 22 Oct with Camdemonium. Formerly known as the Camden Crawl, this year's event sees 14 bands playing in five venues for the price of a pounds 10 ticket. The big treat among them are rustic psychedelic popsters Brian Jonestown Massacre from Oregon, while the rest are the pick of the up-and-coming British bands - most notably Hefner, Llama Farmers, Crocketts and Tiger.
Meanwhile over at the Barbican, the excellent year-long "Inventing America" series (which has presented Bootsy Collins, Willie Nelson, Dr John and James Brown so far this year) takes a twist with the "American Pioneers" season. It starts on 23 Oct when the members of Pulp team up with Terry Riley to perform his pioneering minimalist work, In C. Spring Heel Jack then close the night with a special work which they have composed on 10 turntables. Other nights include a tribute to John Cage (24 Oct), John Zorn (27 Oct) and Glenn Branca's mass guitar workout (31 Oct).
