Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

THE EVENT

The BBC Good Food Cooking and Eating Show

Gone are the days (alas) when Marguerite Patten toured the country with something she had prepared earlier. This grievous gap has now been filled by the BBC which has persuaded 34 chefs to cook live at this food 'n' drink fest.

10.45am-6pm, National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham (0121-780 4133)

THE FILM

Rope

John Dall and Farley Granger smoulder as a murdersome twosome in Hitchcock's version of the stage play inspired by the Twenties Leopold & Loeb murder case. Filmed on a single set in extraordinary 10-minute takes.

8pm, Hull Film Theatre (01482-883015)

THE RECITAL

McFadden/ Drake

Avoid the rush-hour by nipping into London's finest concert hall for this early evening recital by soprano Claron McFadden of songs by Britten, Bernstein's delicious "La Bonne Cuisine" and four of Copland's glorious Emily Dickinson settings.

6pm Wigmore Hall, London W1 (0171-935 2141)
