Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. On September 7, American indie band Weezer made its forthcoming album available for free online streaming. Hurley can now be heard in full via the band's MySpace page.
Weezer has made headlines leading up to the release of Hurley, the band's first album following its highly publicized decision to leave longtime record company Geffen/Interscope and sign to the independent label Epitaph. The album got further notice when frontman Rivers Cuomo revealed the band's unusual cover art: a snapshot of Jorge Garcia, known for his role of Hurley on TV's Lost.
Hurley is the band's eighth studio album overall and the follow-up to 2009's Raditude, which topped the US Billboard rock and alternative charts and hit the top ten on the Billboard 200.
Frontman Rivers Cuomo previously told Rolling Stone that the new album would focus on "the melodies and major chords of traditional '60s pop." The tracks include "Memories," the album's planned first single, as well as "Ruling Me," "Hang On," a track Cuomo says "sounds like Frankie Valli but mixed with Metallica guitars," and "Smart Girl," whose style Cuomo compared to The Beatles' "Back in the U.S.S.R."
Hurley - Weezer's third album in as many years - is due out in the UK on September 13 and in the US a day later.
