Linkin Park returns with 'A Thousand Suns'

Grammy-winning American rock band Linkin Park is set to release the follow-up to 2007 album Minutes to Midnight, which debuted at number one on album charts in 16 countries. A Thousand Suns is co-produced by Rick Rubin and band frontman Mike Shinoda. "The Catalyst," the album's first single, began hitting airwaves in August. Linkin Park has released three studio albums, which have sold 50 million copies worldwide, as well as collaborative albums including the mashup EP Collision Course with rapper Jay-Z. The band is scheduled to make a European tour in the fall, showcasing material from A Thousand Suns for the first time.

Robert Plant's 'Band of Joy'

Robert Plant's forthcoming album Band of Joy, called a "timeless plunge into authentic Americana," will be the Led Zeppelin frontman's first since 2007's six-time Grammy-winner Raising Sand with bluegrass singer Alison Krauss, which hit number two on the US Billboard 200 and the fifth spot on the UK albums chart. Recorded in Nashville, Band of Joy was co-produced by Plant and legendary Nashville guitarist Buddy Miller. According to Plant, it includes "a lot of reflections going back into mid-fifties rockabilly, the singing fishermen and all the great country stuff, along with the soul and R&B from Memphis."

Roger Waters's 30th anniversary 'The Wall' tour

Roger Waters's The Wall tour, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the band's classic album and tour, is so far a 94-date outing, beginning September 15 and running through June 2011, and one of the top-selling tours of the summer. The tour begins in Toronto and continues with shows in several dozen North American cities before moving on to Europe. Pink Floyd's 1979 album The Wall includes the songs "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2," "Comfortably Numb," "Mother," and "Run Like Hell," and is among the band's best-selling albums. In 1980 and 1981, the band toured in support of The Wall, each time presenting the full double album alongside large-scale theatrics.

Lil Wayne: 'I'm Not a Human Being'

An EP of new music by Lil Wayne is expected out on the rapper's birthday. I'm Not a Human Being is being called a "prelude" to the highly anticipated album Tha Carter IV, which was originally set for 2009 release but is now postponed until after November 2010, when the rapper completes an eight-month prison sentence. Lil Wayne's 2008 album Tha Carter III, which won a Grammy for Best Rap Album, debuted at number one on the US Billboard chart and has sold 3.2 million copies worldwide. The EP is expected to come out digitally, followed by a possible physical release before Christmas.

Neil Young, 'Le Noise'

Neil Young is set to release a new album on CD, vinyl, and iTunes on September 28. In late November it will then become available on Blu-Ray, and in the form of an iPhone and iPad app. Young previewed eight of the album's tracks, including "You Never Call" and "Hitchhiker," during his recent Twisted Road tour. A two-time Rock and Rock Hall of Fame inductee, Neil Young has released 33 studio albums over more than 40 years. Le Noise will be the follow-up to Young's 2009 album Fork in the Road, the title song of which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance.

Glastonbury tickets on sale

The Glastonbury Festival, one of the biggest and best-loved camping/music festivals in the world, has its 2011 edition slated for June 22 through 26, and passes are set to go on sale October 3. Tickets for the festival are known to sell out well in advance, and the 2011 edition is likely to be especially hot: it will be the last festival until 2013, as the festival is expected to skip a year in 2012 to avoid conflict with the London Olympic Games. While a full lineup will likely not be out until early spring, Glastonbury organizer Michael Eavis has so far said he has "three really good" headliners. Tickets for 2011 will go on sale at 9:00am London time on Sunday, October 3, costing £195 (€235) for a weekend pass. At the time of booking, buyers will be pasked to pay a £50 (€60) deposit per person, with tickets to be paid in full in early 2011.

Bruno Mars, 'Doo-Wops & Hooligans'

Bruno Mars, the producer, songwriter, singer, and instrumentalist who has contributed to several internationally chart-topping tracks of 2010, is set to release his debut solo album. The 23-year-old Hawaii-born musician co-wrote melodies and contributed prominent vocals for B.o.B's "Nothin' on You," which topped charts in the US, the UK, and the Netherlands; produced Travis McCoy's top ten hit "Billionaire"; and co-wrote the international number-one singles "Right Round" by Flo Rida and "Wavin' Flag" by K'naan. The lead single from Doo-Wops & Hooligans, "Just the Way You Are," was released in late July and has so far peaked at number nine on the US Billboard chart and number three on iTunes.

John Lennon 70th birthday celebrations

The date that would have been the late Beatle's 70th birthday is being marked with official and unoffical celebrations around the world. Among them: eight of Lennon's albums are being reissued on October 4 digitally and on CD; a dedication ceremony will be held at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on October 8 before three John Lennon time capsules are buried at various locations worldwide; a peace monument will be unveiled in Liverpool; and Yoko Ono will celebrate the event in Iceland with events including the lighting of the Imagine Peace Tower and the presentation of awards from the Lennon Ono Grant for Peace.
