From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On Saturday night, the Weeknd performed a Vevo Presents show where he sang tracks from his latest album, Starboy, at Hangar Studios in Los Angeles.

He also brought out Kendrick Lamar to perform his verse on “Sidewalks.” At first, the audience wasn’t fully aware that the Compton native was rapping his verse until he made his way to center stage. By then, the crowd turned up for the hometown emcee.

“[Kendrick is] a genius,” the Weeknd told Zane Lowe in an interview last month. “He is really a genius. He’d walk around. He’d play the record over and over again. I played him songs, the Starboy theme of course, which he incorporated into his verse. He would just walk around. We had food. He’s writing his verse in his head.”

Last week, Kendrick shared the stage with his fans at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. The lucky fans were invited to freestyle during the set before a surprise performance from local rapper Kemba.

The Weeknd’s Legend of the Fall tour will continue through June 2017. Watch him perform "Sidewalks" with K Dot below.
