Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. Now that Prince William and Kate Middleton are wedded and the media coverage is over, the memory of the nuptials of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge can be remembered with The Royal Wedding: The Official Album.
In 1981, the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana was released as an album, but for the first time, the audio portion of the wedding ceremony was recorded and available within hours after the event at iTunes and other digital retailers.
The 21-track collection features performances by the Choir of Westminster Abbey, the Royal Chapel Choir, the London Chamber Orchestra and the Fanfare Team from the Central Band of the Royal Air Force.
A physical album will also be released on May 10 in the US, including a collector's booklet featuring segments of the service such as readings and the vows.
The Royal Wedding: The Official Album on Decca Records includes the welcome, the marriage and vows, the blessing, the procession and hymns from Westminster Abbey, and these pieces of music:
• March from the Birds - the procession of the Queen
• Prelude on Rhosymedre
• Ubi Caritas - the Motet
• The National Anthem - "God Save the Queen"
• Blest Pair of Sirens (the signing of the register)
• Valiant and Brave fanfare
• Toccata from Symphonie V
Also, individual tracks, such as the vows, will be available as singles.
According to Nielsen Media Research, the wedding coverage, drew an audience of 22.8 million viewers in the US and was covered by 11 television networks. By contrast, Prince Charles and Diana's wedding was watched by 14.2 million in 1981.
