Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Times are a’changing

Musos have spent decades looking for “The New Dylan” but here she is! Sorry, Jake Bugg. Brazilian-born Dominique Dillon de Byington, who goes by the stage name Dillon, sounds more like Joanna Newsom than Bob, but her new album The Unknown (out 31 March) is full of hypnotic vocals and melancholy piano melodies. Check out the video for her last single “Your Flesh Against Mine”

Dead ringers

Which festival has Kings Ov Leon, The Trembling Wilberries and Green Date on its bill? No, our sub-editors haven’t taken the day off, it’s this year’s Bootleg Festival in Corby (2 to 4 May) which brings together “world-class tribute acts paying their musical respect to rock and pop legends”. Watch Peat Loaf the hilarious “ real dead ringer” for Meatloaf

Feel like gigging tonite?

Watch out for new app Gignite (launching 11 March) which makes a weekly playlist based on who’s playing in your area, taking all the hard work out of finding a new band to see live. On a UK tour at the moment are Temples, whose retro pop has been tipped by Noel Gallagher and Johnny Marr. Check out their live performance of “ Keep in the Dark”

As if!

Fans of the 1995 teen movie Clueless will be, like, totally buzzing over rapper Iggy Azaelea’s new video for “Fancy”. It’s a shot-by-shot homage to Amy Heckerling’s cult classic, itself a remake of Jane Austen’s Emma. Watch Iggy’s impressive Cher Horowitz impression here. We’re sure Austen would approve.

Next week’s biggie…

Kevin Harley reviews Kiss Me Once, the twelfth studio album from Kylie Minogue. Watch the video for the single “Into the Blue”
