Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

All Tomorrow's Parties' spring seaside festivals have stalled, but their hearty alterna-spirit parties on in this London spin-off, a three-day event thin on the chalet front but crackling with cult bands, rare reunions and evangelists of noise.

After 2011's Portishead jamboree, 2012 finds curators Mogwai and ATP dishing the decibels with speed-metal sadists Slayer's headline slot on Friday; supports include stoner-metallers Sleep, a band noted for recording a 60-minute track called "Dopesmoker" – and yes, it sounds like you'd imagine. Mogwai tower over Saturday, aided by noise mavens covering all bases from scary (Umberto) to sludgy (Mudhoney), immense (Codeine) and emotive (Dirty Three); Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat offer droll respite.

Sunday's retro bill includes Archers of Loaf, nostalgic nippers Yuck and a lusty coup in the shape of reunited narco-noir soul-rockers the Afghan Whigs (above), wherein Greg Dulli takes a swaggering walk not by the seaside but, assuredly, on the wild side.
