His songs are simple expressions of basic principles – "I Will Keep on Praying", "Working for the Lord", etc – repeated as chants of hypnotic power, set to swaying grooves crafted from a few ingeniously interlocking elements, most notably the woody pulse of synthesised marimba and a breathy, offbeat whistle. It's a sort of updated, electro variant on the classic mbaqanga bounce of Mahlathini & The Mahotella Queens, but with their ebullience replaced by a laidback Snoop Dogg cool. It's irresistibly infectious – if Anglican services were this propulsive, churches would be packed.
