Cheesy-in-a-good-way 1969 album (originally on Phillips) by the then-queen of Brazilian vocalists Elis Regina, with the orchestra arranged and directed by Peter Knight, who did the honours for Scott Walker among others.
While the backing is not as rhythmically supple as it could be, the choice of songs is terrific (bossas by Jobim and Menescal, sambas by Edu Lobo, Roberto Carlos, Jorge Ben) and – unusual in a fey genre – Regina can really sing.
