Your support makes all the difference.Devo effectively invented "electroclash" about three decades ago, and while their pessimistic view of our de-evolving society hasn't changed on this first album in 20 years, they now view their position as akin to "the house band on the Titanic", drily observing human frailty in songs such as "Human Rocket" and "Don't Shoot, I'm a Man", the latter relishing the contemporary irony of a hybrid-car driver restlessly scanning the rooftops in fear of a freeway sniper.
Their frankness extends to themselves in the likes of "Fresh", "Later Is Now" and especially the catchy "What We Do". And pleasingly, at its best their punchy "mechanized swing" electropop has lost none of its appeal since the masterful Freedom of Choice.
