Whilst putting the finishing touches to his first feature film, Naughty Boy, the prolific Cosmo Jarvis releases his third album, on which his engaging blend of scepticism and enthusiasm is paralleled by banjo, mandolin and string quartet.

The countrified rock recalls 1970s precursors such as Van Dyke Parks and the Eagles, a mood cemented by his cover of the Grateful Dead's "Friend of the Devil". Whether serenading his hard drive in "Lacie" or getting metaphysical in "Love This", Jarvis's mind is always alert for the unusual angle.
