Album: CocoRosie, Tales of a Grasswidow

"Welcome to the afterli-i-ife" is trilled like a creepy lullaby at the beginning of CocoRosie's fifth album.

The sister duo are Bianca and Sierra Casady; Bianca sings in a knotty high pitch, like an irate changeling child, while Sierra has a rounded, classical voice. With shifting beats and electronic squiggles, plus pump organ, flute and harp, CocoRosie squat, inventively, somewhere between Fever Ray and Joanna Newsom. Unbearable to some ears, but fans will swoon.
