Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.American rock band R.E.M. is set to re-release its 1985 album Fables of The Reconstruction, announced the band's website on May 18. Out July 13, the expanded 25th anniversary edition will include additional demo recordings and a never-released track.
Recorded during the winter of 1985 in London, Fables marked the beginning of a more narrative, lyrical style in the Atlanta-based band's songwriting, with its songs recounting vivid tales of the American South. The album reached #28 on the US album chart and #35 in the UK, coming just before the band's major international success with 1987 album Document.
"The Athens Demos," comprising the new edition's second disc, including drafts of Fables' 11 songs, two early versions of songs that were later recorded for other releases, and one song, "Throw Those Trolls Away," which will be released for the first time on the new edition.
The album will be issued on double-CD, on 180-gram vinyl LP, and as a digital download.
