The reunion of Irish boy band Westlife is not happening despite Louis Walsh "confirming" the news.

Music manager Walsh stated that the group - one of the most successful groups of all time - would "definitely" be making a comeback - however, member Nicky Byrne debunked the news on Twitter.

Westlife sold more than 50 million records worldwide amassing 14 number one singles and 26 top ten hits over 14 years. They split in 2012.

The original line-up consisted of Shane Filan, Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne, Mark Feehily and Brian McFadden who quit in 2004.

Walsh "confirmed" the news in Dublin, telling RSVP Live Magazine: “A Westlife reunion is definitely going to happen... but I have no idea when. I'm still really good friends with all of the lads.

“I think the reunion will be great, but it's up to them to decide when they will do it.”

Westlife fans initially expressed their excitement on social media before realising that Walsh may have been jumping the gun.

Walsh - who is a judge on ITV talent show The X Factor - managed the band that was originally signed by Simon Cowell in 1998.
