From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The Charlatans have been added to this year’s V festival lineup 20 years after they played at the event’s debut in ’96.

They join James Bay, Sam Smith, Calvin Harris and Kasabian on the bill for the festival taking place on 22 and 23 August.

Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess said: “Having been lucky enough to be part of the first ever V Festival line up in ’96 we’re thrilled to be playing its 20th anniversary year.”

Sigma, Wretch 32, Echo & The Bunnymen, Hilltop Hoods, Lawson and Indiana have also been announced as new additions to the lineup today.

Wretch 32 commented: "This will be my hat trick appearance and I can’t wait to get out there and have some fun with my fans.”

The festival takes place across two sites in Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire.

Paloma Faith, Ellie Goulding, Hozier, The Script, George Ezra, Stereophonics, Olly Murs, Chvrches, Kodaline and Ella Henderson are among the British talent on the bill.

Simon Moran, V Festival director, said: “We wanted to champion British talent at this year’s festival and with the likes of Calvin and Kasabian leading the way we don’t think it’ll disappoint. The eclectic mix of established artists and rising stars, with a few more in the pipeline, means that once again there is something for everyone at V Festival.”

The full line-up includes Nero, Reverend and the Makers, The Courteneers, Marina & The Diamonds, The Proclaimers, Tom Jones, Jess Glynne, Andy C, The Kooks, Gregory Porter, Fuse ODG, Clean Bandit, Duke Dumont, Jessie Ware, Ella Eyre, Hannah Wants, Grandmaster Flash and Annie Mac.
