From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Ostrich puppet-wielding, family-friendly comic singer Bernie Clifton was stunned to find this week that his new CDs had been printed with the track listing for Abhorrent Decimation’s new album Miasmic Mutilation.

Instead of classic covers like ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ and ‘Lady In Red’, the CD purported to contain the death metal tracks ‘Eternal Repulsion’, ‘Glaciate The Servants’ and more.

"I'm fuming and furious... I got [the CDs] out the box and I looked on the back and here was the track listing of a death metal group,” said Clifton, who made the album of covers after competing in BBC One talent contest The Voice.

Abhorrent Decimation took the mix-up, believed to be due to similar catalogue numbers, in good spirits.

“Not sure what has happened here exactly but it seems we've done a split with Bernie Clifton. Safe,” they wrote on Facebook.
