From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Strokes performed a brand new song and confirmed a new album is scheduled for release in 2020, during their New Year’s Eve show in Brooklyn.

The band’s frontman Julian Casablancas was filmed telling the crowd that “we’ve been unfrozen, and we’re back”.

The new song, titled “Ode to the Mets”, was debuted as Casablancas told the New York crowd: “Yeah, we’ve got a new album coming out soon. Surprise. 2020 here we come.”

He added: “We took the 2010s – whatever the f*** they're called – we took them off, but now we've been unfrozen and we're back.

“If you really love someone you'll be frozen with them.”

In an interview on Q104.3's Out of the Box radio show, the DJ asked guitarist Nick Valensi whether it was true that The Strokes were currently in the mixing stage with the new LP, and he replied: “Who told you that?”

After being told the DJ got the information from a “reliable source”, Nick confirmed: “Well, it must be true then.”

The band’s last full-length album was 2013’s Comedown Machine. Their latest EP, Future Present Past, was released in 2016.
