From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Maccabees have announced dates for their final live shows after revealing in August that they planned to split up.

The band will play two nights at London's Alexandra Palace and one at the Manchester Apollo in summer 2017.

Guitarist Felix White said: "We're planning on these final shows being a huge celebration, thank you and goodbye to 14 years of writing, recording, playing and touring together."

The Maccabees play the following dates:

Wednesday 28 June 2017: MANCHESTER, O2 Apollo

Friday 30 July 2017: LONDON, Alexandra Palace

Saturday 1 July: LONDON, Alexandra Palace

The band announced their split in a statement over social media earlier this year, saying that the decision had been "incredibly difficult" but reassuring fans that there had "not been fallings out" among any members of the group.

Over their 14 year career the band released four albums, headlined festivals and were nominated for a Mercury Prize.

Tickets for the band's final live shows go on sale on Friday 9 December at 9am.
