The Libertines are set to start work on a new album after a string of successful reunion gigs.
Pete Doherty, Carl Barat and the band played London’s Hyde Park last weekend to high acclaim, despite a crowd crush halting their set and leaving some fans injured.
Co-frontman Barat told NME that new material has “always” been the plan and confirmed that the cogs have started turning for a 2015 release.
“I don’t wanna just go on the road because then you’ll get cabin fever and have an epic fallout,” he said. “So yeah, I want to keep something fresh coming in. We just need to find the time.”
Doherty is keen to take the band to Germany for writing sessions along the lines of those before their 2004 debut album dropped.
“For some reason in my head I’m thinking October, November time,” he hinted. “That’s what will have to happen. Basically, it’ll have to be like Paris, but in Hamburg, and for a bit longer. I’m well up for it.”
Before any grand plans can get under way, The Libertines have a series of live dates on the horizon, including Spain’s Benicassim Festival later this month and three nights at London’s Alexandra Palace in September.
